The BJP led government has made some crucial changes in Land Acquisition Act of 2013 which was in place from January 1, 2014. However these changes have been amended through Ordinance route after facing , so will have to be vetted by Parliament within six months.
- Govt. has redefined "Public Purpose" for which land is being acquired.Projects vital to National Security & Defence, Rural Infrastructure including Electrification, Affordable Housing, Industrial Corridors, Social Infrastructure Projects (including Pvt. Hospitals & Educational Institutions) Infrastructure projects including PPPs where ownership of Land rests with Govt. will be exempt from Consent Clause. No Social Impact Analysis either.
- Acquired land would now have to be utilized within a period specified for the project or 5 years, whichever is later
- 'Private Company' has been substituted with "Private Entity" to bring even proprietorships, partnerships, corporations and non-profit organizations under purview of Act.
- No changes in compesation
